Flea Treatment  Preparation Guide

The following steps should be taken when your home is being sprayed for fleas.

Fleas may require two or more treatments. 95% of the fleas in your home are in the egg stage, only 5% are adults.

  • Any pets should be treated the day of the home treatment to ensure those fleas are treated as well. This is critical.
  • Wash all linens and pet bedding.
  • All cleaning should be done before, not after treatment.
  • Turn off Smoke Alarms.
  • Remove all food items, dishes, utensils, cookware, etc. from open spaces, place in cupboard or cover.
  • Pick up and remove trash inside and outside.
  • Vacuum all carpets and furniture.
  • Mop all wood and tile floors.
  • Furniture and other items should be moved out at least  one foot from walls.
  • Pull all appliances away from the walls about one foot in order to give access to the baseboards of the home.
  • Children’s toys and pet food dishes and exposed food should be placed in a protected area.
  • All windows are to be closed prior to treatment.
  • All adults, children and pets must be away from the home for a minimum of 4-6 hours after the treatment.
  • Any aquariums are to be unplugged and covered with a towel or blanket.
  • Any people with asthma, children under two years of age, pregnant women, seniors, or people with health concerns should remain out of the home a minimum of 8 hours.

After Treatment:

  • Do not re-enter the premise for at least 4 hours unless specified otherwise.
  • If you have medical problems or are
  • If you chose you can air out your home by opening all windows and doors. Use a fan to help circulate the air if possible. There should be minimal odor and the odor will not harm you in any way. It will lessen within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Thoroughly wash (with soap and water) all exposed eating surfaces (including table and counter tops) and any exposed dishes or silverware.
  • Do not wash any treated surfaces such as baseboards.
  • Vacuuming should be done with beater bar turned off if possible to avoid the removal of the chemicals.
  • It is important that there is human  movement inside the home to encourage the flea eggs to hatch. Stomp around when possible, the vibration causes the eggs to hatch.

Usually, one flea treatment is enough to eliminate the infestation however you may require two or more flea treatments completed 2-3 weeks apart.
